The order can run in either direction. On the Mekong, many itineraries include a road transfer between the river and Siem Reap, because the Tonle Sap lake that leads to Angkor is often too shallow for cruise ships. That is normal, not a flaw — but it is worth knowing which part of the journey is on the ship.
What to Compare Between Packages
- Hotel nights: how many, which hotels and where they are.
- Internal flights: included, or extra?
- Guides: one tour director throughout, or local guides at each stop?
- Touring: which sights are included and which are optional.
- Visas: does the line help with them?
- Group size on land and on the ship.
